Just finished reading about the Toshiba commercial on Cosmic Log. I have an idea for a two-stage balloon, which is what I thought was meant by a dual-balloon flight. First stage would be the usual balloon, but it would be hauling aloft a second balloon made of material that will not become brittle at altitude and is filled with just the right amount of compressed gas to lift the rig and so that it starts out deflated but ends up completely inflated due to the change in atmospheric pressure. Now, the first balloon pops and the second balloon, more rugged and now inflated, takes off for ever higher altitudes.
Amazing! I can’t pick a favorite. Too many good choices. Here’s to 2012!
