Magnetohydrodynamic Testing Continues

December 5th, 2011

We did three more MHD Generator tests Saturday. We found the earlier problem and we’ve now getting consistent results again. We can now continue with building the generator for the quad engine.

We’ve now done 39 firings of various MHD generators. We’re starting to figure these things out!

MHD Data Anomalies

November 29th, 2011

We’ve just competed firings 34, 35 and 36 and have been getting some strange data. These units had been giving pretty consistent results, now the numbers just don’t make sense.  We’ve been doubling the engine thrust on each to increase the current output. We hoped we would see something that was too subtle in the lower current outputs and we just may have.

This is the best part of developing new tech. When something that should be the same turns out unexpected you just know you’re going to discover something interesting or cool or very very useful.

MHD Work

November 26th, 2011

Tonight the Karl and Aubrey are testing two of the MHD generators for firing tests tomorrow. One of the generators will be modified to fit on the quad engine.
